Annual Volunteer Luncheon

Hospice of Huntington recently held its Annual Volunteer Holiday Luncheon at First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, WV on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Over 100 patient care, clergy, bereavement, office and special project volunteers gathered to share a meal and to recognize their fellow volunteers. Charlene Farrell, President and CEO, opened the program emphasizing the agency’s continued support for its volunteer corps and recognizing its volunteers as the “heart of hospice.” Volunteer Advisory Council members Becky Compton, Ruth Swanson, Virginia Thompson and Jean Ramsey presented a reading entitled “On Being a Hospice Volunteer.” Martha Persinger, Director of Volunteer Services, and Julie Huron, Volunteer Coordinator added to the festivities to present Service Award Recognitions for years of service, Special Project Recognitions, and Special Merit Awards for 2013. To date, volunteers have provided support to the agency valued at nearly $400,000 for 2013.

The following awards were presented:

Ten Year Service – Jennifer Brooks, Robert Campbell, Butch Carico, Sarah Denman, Beth Heinz, Joyce Levy and Jean Read

Twenty Year Service – Sara Blethen and Shirley Henson

Special Project Recognition for 2013 – Wayne County Advisory Board, Lincoln County Advisory Board, The Huntington Woman’s Club, Prayer Shawl Ministry and Snack Basket Ministry
