Prayer Shawl Ministry
Making a Difference Stitch-by-Stitch

The Prayer Ministry at Hospice of Huntington, Inc. was initiated in 2007 by Jean Ramsey, a long time Hospice patient volunteer, and member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church located in Huntington, WV.

The shawls are knitted or crocheted and most measure 28" wide and about 58" long. As individuals knit they are asked to pray, meditate and ask for God's comfort, strength and healing so that whoever shall receive this gift will be comforted by God's grace.

Since its inception area churches, individuals and organizations have made well over 600 handmade knitted or crocheted prayer shawls for our patients. Shawls are given to patients residing at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House as well as patients in our home program. To see these shawls sooth and comfort patients at the end of life is testimony to God working through His people.

When shawls are donated to Hospice we often invite the groups to come to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House and participate in an additional blessing of the shawls by our Hospice chaplain. Groups or individuals make also request a tour of the facility hosted by the Director of Volunteer Services and Jean Ramsey, Volunteer Ambassador. If you would like a dedication ceremony and tour please call Lisa Floyd, Director of Volunteer Services (304) 529-4217 or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
