All volunteers must complete
and submit an application. Once we receive and review the
information, you will be contacted to schedule an interview
with our Volunteer Services Coordinator. Here
are some examples of current volunteer opportunities.
Orientation and Training Process
The Volunteer Department for Hospice of Huntington offers
a comprehensive, three-day 24-hour volunteer training program.
Many have called this a "life-changing experience." The training
program prepares our volunteers to work in various areas of
hospice services. Volunteers are taught a variety of communication
skills to deal with patients and family members, and provide
comfort care, in addition to the history and philosophy of
Hospice of Huntington.
Following the training, volunteers who work with patients
and families may volunteer a maximum of four hours per week.
For other volunteers, the amount of time dedicated towards
volunteering is unrestricted. We remain flexible, understanding
that each of us may have professional and personal commitments
which can impact time available for volunteering.
Hospice of Huntington is grateful for each and every volunteer
who is so giving of his or her time to our organization. A
great deal of personal work is involved in the training program,
including knowing one's limits and acknowledging beliefs about
death and dying. Office volunteers and others participate
in an interview and brief orientation process and do not need
to attend the 24-hour patient care volunteer training program.
If you are interested in joining our growing list of volunteers
at Hospice of Huntington, please contact the Volunteer Department
at (304) 529-4217 to receive an application or you may download
the application and mail or email it to:
